Am I eligible to receive Meals on Wheels?
You are eligible for Meals on Wheels if you are an older adult who lives in our service area, and you are having difficulty preparing meals for yourself because of illness, limited mobility, or other conditions. This can include short-term support for clients during recovery from medical procedures.
What areas do you serve?
The Woodside MOW program serves customers in parts of Langhorne, Penndel, Newtown, Yardley, Upper/Lower Makefield, Morrisville, Holland, Churchville, Richboro and Southampton. We will verify that your address is within our delivery area when you apply.
How do I sign up for the program?
If you or someone you know would benefit from Meals on Wheels, please contact us at (215) 968-4233, email us at woodsidemealsonwheels@yahoo.com, or visit the “Contact Us” page on our website. Our volunteers will respond to your call, and you will be asked to fill out an application over the phone. In addition to information about you, we will ask you to provide the name and phone number of a family member or friend to contact if there is an emergency or we do not find you at home.
What is included in your meals?
Meals are delivered frozen each week on Wednesday mornings. Each frozen meal includes an entrée with a serving of a protein, a starch such as a potato or pasta, and a vegetable. You will also receive a salad, dessert, bread and butter and a choice of whole milk, skim milk, 2% milk, iced tea, lemonade or water.
Where are the meals prepared?
Our meals are prepared by our partner, Pennswood Village, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Newtown.
Can you accommodate special dietary requirements?
Our meal provider, Pennswood Village, follows the American Heart Association’s guidelines for meal preparation, limiting saturated fat, trans fat, sodium, red meat, sweets and sugar-sweetened beverages. To reduce sodium in foods, salt is minimized and replaced by mild spices and other flavorings. Healthy oils, such as canola and olive oil, are used to prepare foods. Fruits and “No Concentrated Sweets” desserts are offered daily. The menus are planned to meet the nutritional requirements of the Meals on Wheels program to provide a nutritionally balanced diet. We can support some special diet requirements to accommodate medical issues or allergies, on a case-by-case basis.
Can I select meals from a menu?
We receive chicken, beef, pork or fish meals each week. We will ask which of these you prefer. If there are specific foods you do not like, we can talk about those when you apply. Although we do our best to comply with client wishes, the number of specific preferences we can accommodate is limited by the varieties of prepared foods available on a given day and by the importance of still providing clients meals that are balanced and nutritious.
How much do the meals cost?
This meal costs $3.75 per day. Some clients may be eligible for financial assistance from the county. If you think you may qualify, contact the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging at (267) 880-5700 and ask for Information and Referral.
How many days a week do you deliver?
The MOW program delivers up to five frozen meals on Wednesday mornings each week. Meals are delivered between 10:00 and 11:30 AM.
Who delivers the meals?
Our friendly Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver your meals each week.
Do I have to sign up for meals all five days?
No, you can request service for as many days as needed but the minimum number of meals is 2 each week.
How do I cancel a meal delivery if I will not be home?
To cancel a meal delivery, please call us at (215) 968-4233 no later than 9 AM on Friday of the week before. Once our food order is placed, we will have to charge you for the meals in that delivery. It is important that we know when you are not planning to be home. Since we care about your health and safety, if you do not cancel and our driver does not find you at home, we will try to contact you or your emergency contact by phone. If we cannot reach you or your emergency contact, we will request a wellness check from the local police department.

Participants should always have non-perishable food on hand for the scheduled holidays and in the case of unexpected service cancellations. You will be notified if we need to cancel deliveries because of weather conditions. In this case, we will reschedule delivery for another day.
How long can I participate in the program?
You can continue to receive meals as long as you are unable to prepare meals for yourself. Once you are more independent and able to prepare meals , we encourage you to let us know so we can provide meals to someone who cannot prepare their own meals.
